Maura Sargent is a psychic who lives at 300 Fox Way with her family and friends. She is the mother of Blue Sargent.

Biography[]

Maura's life before Blue is mostly a mystery. She met Calla and Persephone while hitchhiking to Henrietta, the three of them drawn by the town's psychic energy. Sometime after settling into 300 Fox Way, Maura fell in love with Artemus, the spirit of a magical tree inhabiting a human body. When he disappeared, she raised Blue on her own. She makes a living by giving Tarot card readings.

Maura falls in love with Mr. Gray, and later disappears underground, supposedly in search of Artemus. Her magical gift and her life philosophy have a great impact on the Gray Man and change his life.

Personality[]

Maura is a stoic and dependable woman, who derives confidence from her ability to divine the future. It is said that "a poor childhood in West Virginia" left Maura with "a strong sense of self-reliance, a high tolerance for discomfort, and a black sense of humor." She does not mince her words, but is openly affectionate with her daughter. She is quick to forgive, does not believe in giving orders, and mostly leaves Blue to her own devices. She subscribes to a non-traditional lifestyle, involving only women, day-drinking, and tree worship. Maura just wants her daughter to be safe and happy. She doesn't want Blue to suffer or be in any kind of danger because of the adventures that the Raven Boys are going on. She is described by Calla as a "Judgmental but gifted clairvoyant with a talent for bad decision-making."

Physical Description[]

Maura is described as a taller version of her daughter, with similar dark brown hair and high cheekbones. She wears her trademark tattered jeans and has a preference for going barefoot, which is implied to be connected to her magical powers.

Relationships[]

Mr. Gray[]

Maura and Mr. Gray meet when he comes to Henrietta as a hitman searching for the Greywaren. Upon meeting Maura however, and learning that the Greywaren is a person and not an object, Mr. Gray abandons his job and moves into 300 Fox Way.

Blue Sargent[]

Blue and Maura have a unique mother-daughter relationship. Because Maura doesn't "believe in giving orders," Blue grew up with a lot of freedom and independence. Both mother and daughter love each other very much.
